Burn Club's History

On 28th September, 2003, Morriston Hospital Swansea launched their new burns club – the Welsh Dragon Burns Club. The celebration was attended by the Deputy Lord Mayor of Swansea, the Deputy Mayor of Neath & Port Talbot, celebrities such as former Welsh rugby captain Scott Quinnell, the Swansea Fire Brigade, 100 children and their families and friends.   The event culminated in a magnificent afternoon tea and with the children releasing balloons in the glorious sunshine.  At the launch of the Welsh Dragon Burns Club, The Children's Fire & Burns Trust (CF&BT) presented an Award of Courage to Kimberly Daw. Kimberly was burned in a house fire at the age of 18 months, suffering 68% burns to her body. Now aged 15, Kimberly has undergone 110 operations. The Award was accompanied by a personal note from HRH Prince Michael of Kent and signed photographs of pop star Gareth Gates, and CF&BT patron Amanda Redman.  Since the launch of the club in 2003 it has managed to establish two annual camps :-  one is an activity based camp  and  the other, a  holiday camp.  Additionally it holds a number of family events and day trips throughout the year.
